Established in 2012, Grace Co-op started when Laura Richmond and Nici Smith decided to try a new model of education, combining private, traditional classroom education with home education. They hired a teacher and started with 7 students. Over the past nine years, the school has grown to 36 students in grades K-5 and we are adding a 6th grade for the 2021-2022 academic year.
In 2015, Grace Co-op changed it’s name to Grace Preparatory Academy of Boston and joined with University Model® School International to start the process to become a fully functioning University Model® school. Grace Preparatory Academy is not formally considered a private school by the state of Massachusetts, but is still defined as a tutorial service to homeschoolers.
At the end of May 2018, Grace Prep submitted an application to become a 501(c)(3). We received notification of our 501(c)(3) status in late December 2018.
In May of 2021 we will go through the certification process at UMSI. UMSI is also seeking accreditation through Cognia. Once we receive our certification, Grace Prep will be under the umbrella of UMSI as a University Model® school.
